A CELEBRATION OF LATIN AMERICAN MUSIC, DANCE, VISUAL ARTS, FILM, THEATER, AND LITERATURE IN VENUES THROUGHOUT NEW YORK CITY


PAN AMERICAN MUSICAL ART RESEARCH, Inc. (PAMAR) founded in 1984 in New York City, is a non-profit organization that promotes a better understanding between the various cultures and countries of the Americas, primarily through a vital and lively exchange of their music, musicians and dancers.

PAMAR’s dream comes true this year with the inaugural season of Latin American Cultural Week SM (LACW), through which the organizations will reach out to the New York community and share the richness of Latin American culture. Venues throughout the City will host presentations of Latin American dance, music, visual arts, film, theater and literature.

Acclaimed pianist specialized in Latin American repertoire, Polly Ferman, PAMAR’s Founder/Artistic Director, is Co-Founder and Producer of LACW. Pamar Board Member Asher Remy Toledo is Co-Founder of LACW.

About the Project Co-Founders:

Polly Ferman Founder/Artistic Director of PAMAR, One of the leading interpreters of the music of the Americas, New York-based pianist Polly Ferman continues to captivate audiences with her outstanding performances of works by Gottschalk, Nazareth, Gershwin, Villa-Lobos, Ginastera, Piazzolla and many others. Her mastery of the literature prompted The Japan Times to recognize her as "a Musical Ambassador of the Americas."

Ferman's extensive tours as a soloist have included performances with Symphonies throughout the United States and Latin America, and in Canada, Japan, Ukraine and the Philippines, as well as recitals in New York, Tokyo, Washington, D.C., London, Munich and Buenos Aires. She was the only soloist selected to play at the Pan American Games of 1992. Her performances were featured in a 2005 nationally televised PBS documentary special: Tango the Spirit of Argentina and in the Brazilian movie A Viuva da Rua Siria.

Ms. Ferman's collaborations include duo performances with guitarist Eduardo Isaac and bandoneonist Daniel Binelli, and performances as guest artist in Binelli's quintet, Tango Metropolis and with the Orquestango project, with which she has toured extensively in Europe, Japan, Australia and the U.S. She is also Music Director and pianist for Leading Ladies of Tango.

Ferman's numerous recordings, including solo disks of Latin American piano masterworks and collaborations with Daniel Binelli and Orquestango, constitute one of the world’s most extensive collections of Latin American repertoire, and are available on Music Masters, Musical Heritage Society, PAMAR, Talent Romeo Records, EPSA Music, Sondor and New Vision.

She is the Founder and Artistic Director of New York-based PAMAR (Pan American Musical Art Research, Inc, a non-profit organization founded in 1984 in New York City, whose purpose is to promote better understanding among the various countries and cultures of the Americas. She is also the Producer and Co-Founder of the organization’s Latin American Cultural Week in New York, which features music, dance, literature, visual arts, theater and film of and by Latin American artists in more than two dozen of New York’s leading cultural institutions.


Asher Remy-Toledo, LACW Co-Founder/Visual Arts Chair
Remy Toledo is a space for art projects. The city of New York becomes an exhibition ground for the gallery's experimental work, encouraging its visitors to constantly explore, discover, and experience the city itself as a gallery. Even though one of the aims of the gallery is the promotion of conceptual artists of Latin American background, the gallery is open to artists that meet the gallery criteria regardless where they come from. Asher was the person behind the original idea of the creation of LACW.

Born in Colombia; Asher previously worked in Rome as director of a Tour Operator company with over 80 offices in Italy. There he organized a myriad of tours, with emphasis on art history and architecture. He studied social politics for 3 years in Jerusalem in Ohr Somaya and the Hebrew University. He also has a degree in Business Administration from Politecnico de Madrid (Spain) and a program in business from the Business Executive Program at Harvard.
