Pan American Musical Art Research, Inc., (PAMAR) is a
501c3 non-profit organization seeking to promote a better
understanding and coexistence between the various cultures
and countries of the Americas, primarily through an ongoing
and vital exchange of their artistic fields including music,
dance, theater, film, visual arts and literature, and through
educational programs. PAMAR reaches out to people of all
ages, backgrounds, and communities, to spread awareness
of the richness and value of the culture of Latin America, and
makes efforts to provide the underserved student population
with high quality music opportunities and programs.
Founded in 1984 in New York City by Uruguayan born
pianist Polly Ferman, PAMAR has showcased
presentations of different artists of diverse Pan American
origin, and has become an important resource center for
artists, educators and the public seeking information on the
myriad artists of the Americas. PAMAR has relied on
government and foundation grants, and most heavily in
recent years on in-kind, Board Member and individual
contributions and on the efforts of many volunteers. In 2005,
PAMAR launched new vision programs for the organization
to take it to the next level - creating two projects to help it in
achieving its mission of serving both the adult and youth
populations of NYC: the “Latin American Cultural Week”
and “A Musical Journey Through Latin America”. In October
2006, PAMAR received a special citation from New York
City Council Member, Mr. Daniel Garodnick recognizing the
outstanding value of the organization, “worthy of the esteem
of both the community and the great City of New York” for
sparking City-wide interest and support.
